Abdallah Boumediene Chairman
Abdallah Boumediene immigrated to the US in the early 1970’s. Following graduation from Wayne State University, he started his career in the field of healthcare. Over the past 30 years he acquired an extensive experience in clinics operations, healthcare finance, and management. His personal interest in community activism and civil rights lead him to be involved with various local organizations, including co-hosting a radio talk show which focused on interviewing various leaders on community related topics and advocacy initiatives. In addition to community involvement, and advocacy work, he is active on a number of Boards; both local and national. At the State level, he is Board member and current Treasurer of the Michigan Committee on Refugees Resettlement, as well as member on the State of Michigan advisory Board on Recipients rights. Locally, he is Board member of the Detroit Area Interfaith Committee on Workers Issues and on the Board of Directors of the Greater Detroit Area Health Council. He was also Board member of the now defunct Cranbrook Peace foundation. At the national level, he served as executive member on the Board of the Consortium on Torture Treatment Programs (term ended in June 2007) and is the the current President of the National Consortium.
Ed (Amad) Bedoun Secretary
Ed (Amad) Bedoun is an American born grandson to a Lebanese immigrant. Born and raised in Detroit, MI. Ed graduated from Detroit Chadsey High School with a Cum Laude honor diploma (1975). He later earned a BSEE at Wayne State University (1980). He has thirty years of experience in the engineering field as a test systems integrator of industrial controls and test systems for Commercial, Aerospace, Military and Medical customers. He is a former member of the Wayne State College of Engineering Alumni board, emeritus member, and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Center of American in Dearborn, MI. As well as Chairman of the Planning and Construction Committee for the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, MI. His other memberships and affiliations include Lebanese International Business Council, Former Wayne State University Alumni Board, and Council of Arab American Organizations. Ed is married with four children and resides in Plymouth, MI.
Imam Mustapha Elturk Vice Chairman and Imam Committee Co-Chair
Imam Mustapha “Steve” Elturk was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1955. He immigrated to the USA in 1976 amid the start of the Lebanese civil war. Imam Elturk, is a publically engaged Muslim leader and a leading interfaith activist in the Detroit Area. In addition to his involvement with CIOM, he is a Board member of the University Islamic Center (Wayne State) in Detroit, Michigan, President of the American Society for Religious and Cultural Understanding (ASRCU), Executive board member/Treasurer of the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit (IFLC) formerly the Interfaith Partners of the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion (MRDI), President of the board of directors of the Interfaith Center for Racial Justice (ICRJ), a member of the Steering Committee of the Community of Faiths, Police, and City (CPC) of the City of Warren. Currently Imam Elturk is the Imam and President of the Islamic Organization of North America (IONA), a non-violent movement whose aim is promote and struggle for Justice. IONA’s slogan is Repentance, Revitalization of Faith, and Renewal of Covenant. Imam Elturk is married and has 6 children. He resides in Troy, Michigan.

Shahid Tahir Treasurer
Shahid Tahir was born Pakistan and migrated to the United States in 1993. He attended the University of Karachi in Pakistan and graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. He continued his studies in the United States and currently holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Andrews University in Berrien Spring, Michigan. In 1999 he became a United States citizen in addition to maintaining his citizenship in Pakistan, while staying actively involved in the affairs of the Pakistani community. Among his philanthropic interests he serves as the director of Hafiz Memorial Trust in Okara, Pakistan, an organization that he founded in memory of his father to treat those in the community who cannot afford healthcare. Dr. Tahir has been instrumental in furthering the interests of the Pakistani community in the United States through his political involvements. He was actively involved in the fundraising efforts for the first ever to be elected Muslim congressman, Keith Ellison from Minnesota. He also participated in the fundraising efforts for Senator Hillary Clinton for her reelection campaign. As a Century Club member for the Michigan Democratic Party he has hosted and helped raise funds that led to the reelection of both Senator Debbie Stabenow and Governor Jennifer Granholm. Currently, Dr. Tahir is CEO of At Home Network, Inc., one of Michigan’s leading home healthcare agencies, CEO of Metro Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Inc., an outpatient therapy services facility and CEO of All American Medical Equipment, Inc. in Michigan.

Ghalib V. Begg Senior Advisor/Chairman Emeritus and Co-Founder
Ghalib Begg is a retired businessman who spends most of his time in community service and as a Muslim activist at the local and national level. He has many accolades including ‘2009 Michiganian of the Year’ by the Detroit News staff & readers, ‘Community Peacemaker of the Year’ by the Peace & Conflict Resolutions Studies Center, Wayne State University, Detroit, ’Diversity Champion ‘ by the Birmingham-Bloomfield Hills Race Relations & Diversity Task Force. He is also Co-Founder of the Muslim Unity Center Mosque in Bloomfield Hills, Board Member and Co-Founder of the Interfaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit, Board Member of the Michigan Round Table for Diversity and Inclusion, Member of the Midwest Muslim-Catholic dialog, and a frequent op-ed writer in the Detroit newspapers on Muslim issues. He has appeared on the FOX network, NPR, CBS and other local, national and international media outlets. He is involved with the Michigan Community Service Commission for 8 years, Michigan Human Rights Coalition and was elected to the Bloomfield Hills Board of Education and served a 4 year term.
